JUNE 19,2008

This a the guy who Joe met at the Uni Mart.
He was looking for directions to get to Scranton...and also where he could find a church where he could rest along the way.
He said he was from Washington State and was riding his bike across the country.
He said he left Washington in March.
I LOVED his shirt..
Ok..So when Joe told me about this guy he just met at the Uni Mart I got my camera and went over. The man was still in the Uni Mart so all I saw was the Bike...Keeping in mind I know nothing about bikes..I didnt even think twice by looking at just the bike that this story would not be true..I must admit that when I did get a look at this guy that I just thought
"You gotta be Kidding"
We cant remember if he said he was going to Cape May or Cape Cod.He did say that when he feel like he has to clean up he checks into a cheap motel.
Here is another picture with a better view of what was on the bike and the back of his calves.

Call me crazy, but I don't think so....

Call me a skeptic, but I'm with Mary Anne...I don't think he could have made it from Washington, D.C.! But who knows, anything is possible!

Never underestimate the power of a gray-bearded man wearing socks with sandals that has no apparent sign of calf muscles despite his recent accomplishment of cycling from Washington State to PA! But then again, there's always the potential for blood doping.

Hi Jamie Russell...are you the usual "anonymous" who frequents this blog? Are you still a jogging machine?

JOAN said...

LOL I still like his shirt...

I think the sandals are a dead give away. I say he's not a biker. But he is a cute old guy.

Hi Cindy! While I do frequent this and the OFHS76 blog, that was the first posting for me. I've cut back on my running the past year or so. I'm do more on the elliptical machine now and my legs feel a lot better without all the pounding. How's life in Montgomery County?

Ok you two. Have you heard of e-mail?

Sorry, Jamie, I don't have your email and Mary Anne won't let us continue communication...

Uh.. Look at the bike. If it is indeed his, you don't pack a bike like that if you are cycling from wyoming to west pittston.

Maybe he really was biking from Wash State. What happened you all you people? Non-believers once you hit 50?

Ok, ok, ok...I scrutinized the picture a little further and also consulted with Rich (who is a bicyclist). The Cannondale bike is at least $1000, so he is a serious rider (or has $$$ to spare). Washington is about 2500 miles away from Scranton, so he could have reasonably ridden from there at 25 miles or so a day since he started in March. But still, the mountains, the winter weather, ...looking at this guy, it still is a lot to get myself around!

Perhaps his reindeer pulled him and his bike from Washington to PA.

ho, ho, ho! I think it's comical that we are spending so much time on this guy. I hope it never ends...

Not only does this guy look like Santa Claus, but he also could pass for that Burl Ives "Sam The Snowman" character.

Observation of calves in second picture: My dog has bigger calves than this guy.*
*I don't have a dog, but I thought it was a good line!
Hey Anonymous (Jamie), I watch "Rudolph" just about every year (even bought the DVD) and never knew the name of the Snowman played by Burl Ives is SAM! Good work!
